A quieter side of Schiphol

Hilton Amsterdam Airport Schiphol

Some hotels are made for the city outside their doors. This one makes the journey itself part of the stay.

At Hilton Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, a covered walkway leads from the terminal into a very different kind of airport hotel. The building opens around a soaring, 42-metre glass atrium, where light travels down through the centre and white galleries curve around the space. It feels open and composed, even with the movement of the airport just beyond it.

From the outside, the hotel has a presence that’s hard to mistake. Its rounded, rotated form and diamond-patterned façade give it the character of a landmark, rather than a place simply passed on the way to somewhere else. The design was created by Dutch practice Mecanoo, and it received a European Hotel Design Award in 2016.

Inside, the atrium becomes the hotel’s natural gathering place. Axis Lobby & Cocktail Bar sits beneath the glass roof, while Bowery Restaurant brings together Dutch influences and a broader international menu. For a longer pause, the hotel also has a spa, indoor pool and fitness centre.

The airport remains close, but it doesn’t have to set the tone for your stay. There’s room here to slow down: a coffee beneath the atrium, a swim before an early flight, or a final drink before the next departure board calls.

And when Amsterdam is calling, the train from Schiphol reaches the city centre in about 15 minutes. The hotel works as a calm beginning or ending to a trip, with the city still within easy reach.

At Guest Number 9, we’re drawn to places that make a setting feel considered. Hilton Amsterdam Airport Schiphol does that with architecture, light and a little breathing space between the journey and whatever comes next.
